Omotayo Bags 2026 Africa Excellence Award
Founder, International Sports Institute Educational Trust Ltd GTE ISI, Prof. Oluwaseun Omotayo, has been honoured with the 2026 Africa Illustrious Award for Excellence and Sports-for-Development.
Prof. Omotayo received the award at a colourful ceremony held on Saturday, 6 June, 2026 at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Omotayo was honoured for several landmark initiatives to his credit in the Education and Sports sectors in Nigeria, across Africa and beyond, the latest of which is a degree foundation programme exclusive to sportsmen and sportswomen. The programme, which was recently launched in collaboration with Garden City University, Kumasi Ghana, is the first of its kind in Nigeria, Ghana and the ECOWAS Region.
Fielding questions, Prof. Omotayo said the degree foundation programme which will run online was a pathway to securing the future of sportsmen and sportswomen.
He called on young sportsmen and sportswomen in sports academies in Nigeria, Africa and around the world to take advantage of the opportunities in the degree foundation programme to secure their future since sports performance has a short lifespan while education lasts for a lifetime.
